Yesterday we went for what probably will be the last hike (without skis) this year. A few degrees, fog, 110% humidity and no sun made it a cold experience. We did a 3 km hike which included stop for hot tea at Reinerova cabin, and warm lunch at Bilikova cabin, before we ended our hike at the mountain tram at Hribienok cabin. Bad weather but good food!

Tatras today
Here is Strbske Pleso seen from the main road below where we live. Our house is a few hundred meters to the right from the right edge of the picture. The mountain with snow is Rysy, which is also the Slovak-Polish border. The open areas in the forest are from the storm that hit Tatras about 5 years ago, crushing 50 km2 of forest... And yes, Strbske Pleso is the area around the ski-hill in the center of the picture...
PS: thinking about getting a fancy camera, I see the limit of my mobile phone in such landscape pictures...

Bear track

Yesterday I was out for a walk from our house, and I became a little bit concerned when I saw the track in the picture above. From what I was able to figure out from the tracks on the path it looked as the bear had gone back into the forest so I continued... Didn't see any more bear tracks or bears. But the tracks were fresh... |

Winter coming soon!
We have already seen the first snow in Strbske Pleso this year, and the skiing season is coming soon. Kristina and Magnus are ready to put on both their cross-country and alpine skiis as soon as the opportunitiy is here, and so are their parents. This picture is from 2 seasons ago. Last year we had the longest ski-season in the histroy of Strbske Pleso, it lasted from November until around May 10th. Let's hope for a winter with lots of snow!!
Buddies on camping holiday
Another picture from our Croatia holiday. Outside the bobil where we stayed in Baska. Lot's of space for kids to run around and play football and learn to bike and injure themselves :-) And entertain our German, Austrian and Dutch neighbours
Summer Vacation in Kroatia
 This summer we went to Baska in Croatia (not for the first year...) Beautiful place with one of the nicest rock-beaches (not sharp) in Croatia.The terrain around Baska is also beautiful and very nice for both hiking, running and both road- and mountainbiking. It's also good for rollerskiing Katka has discovered. This was our first "bobil" vacation and considering we are beginners everything went fine. Radko & Renata's Wedding
Radko (Katka's brother) and Renata got married in August. The ceremony was in Strbske Pleso church. Here we are all of us with them outside the church.
Birthday party
Myself and Juraj on Juraj's 40 year birthday party. Juraj turned out to be an expert handling the barbecue that you can just see in the lower right corner of the picture...
Swimming in Piestany
In August we went for a mid-week 1 day day trip to the Spa town of Piestany in southern Slovakia. Stayed overnight at a decent campground close to the spa, and as you can see the kids enjoyed the pool the next day. Mid-week turned out to be smart as we avoided some of the overcrowdedness (is that a word?) that you can sometimes experience in the weekend.
Update: turns out that the picture was from last years trip to Piestany....
